How Blue Tree Digital Grew Cloud Defense’s Traffic from 1 to 16,679 Monthly Visitors

Cloud Defense also recognized the importance of a robust backlink profile for enhanced authority and trust – this required a link-building strategy that not only increased the number of referring domains but also ensured that these links were from authoritative and relevant sources.

Blue Tree Digital was tasked with formulating a targeted digital PR approach to attract the attention of potential customers and raise traffic levels long term.

Our Approach

From analyzing Cloud Defense’s specific needs to tailoring the campaign over time, our approach includes several multifaceted steps to achieve the best results. 

Step 1: Building a List of Eligible Websites

We compiled a list of relevant cybersecurity sites to reach out to, including security sites we were already working with (all sites had an average DR rating of 70 and a minimum of 20k search traffic). A list of 1500+ sites was what we had to work with. 

Step 2: Pitching 

We reached out to each site with a cold pitch offering to write an article for them. The site editors agreed that we could pitch them topics or assist with topic ideation, and our pitching team brainstormed and suggested topic ideas per site.

Step 3: Content

After getting a topic formally approved, our team of professional writers started working on high-quality content and submitting the pieces to each site. Our writers and editors ensured that there was a natural placement to the respective Cloud Defense page by:

  • ensuring cloud security would be relevant to the topic, and 
  • ensuring context surrounding the placement.

Eight reliable and quality cybersecurity writers targeted the same keywords and ensured the fulfillment of the articles.

Step 4: Ensuring Relevancy and Continuous Improvement

  • As the articles began to be published, the links naturally started to accumulate. We meticulously monitored each active link using a Link Tracker Sheet and regularly presented Cloud Defense with detailed monthly reports that highlighted the successes of the campaign.

Using the outlined strategy, we ended up pitching over 1000 cybersecurity publications. 

Throughout the campaign, we tested fifteen different campaigns that revolved around fifteen different cold pitches, before settling on the pitches that were performing the best in reply rates from site editors.
